Our Story

Sam Walker’s American Tavern opened its doors in January 2022 in Woburn, MA, inspired by Captain Samuel Walker, Sr., a respected 17th-century selectman and the first licensed tavern owner in the city. With one of our managing partners being a lifelong Woburn resident, our connection to the community runs deep, and our name reflects the rich history of the city we love.

In December 2025, we expanded to Swampscott, bringing the warm, welcoming atmosphere and neighborhood spirit of our Woburn location to the North Shore. At both locations, Sam Walker’s offers outstanding food, handcrafted beverages, and genuine hospitality in a space where guests can relax, connect, and enjoy memorable experiences.

Across our Woburn and Swampscott locations, Sam Walker’s offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that blends classic comfort with thoughtful design. Soaring ceilings, a grand center bar, and open-air dining in the summer, complete with floor-to-ceiling operational garage doors making our spaces perfect for any season.

Our seasonal menus highlight approachable, carefully prepared American fare, featuring fresh ingredients and an in-house barbecue program. The beverage program is creative and ever-changing, with over 50 local and regional draft and bottled beers, a curated wine list of new and old world varietals, seasonal sangrias on tap, and cocktails crafted with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Great food, thoughtfully crafted drinks, and welcoming spaces, every detail designed for guests to relax and savor the moment.
